Weaving with a fan reed

I wanted to try using a fan reed to create undulating patterns. Fan reeds are, however, very expensive so I have fashioned my own using a couple of metal rods, drilled popsicle sticks and--I am most proud of this part--ditalini pasta as spacers. This is give me a chnace to play around...or make soup if the results are not up to scratch.

This works because you shift the position of the reed up and down as you go. On old barn looms like mine with overhead beaters this is quite simple, since most of the old looms have multiple holes for pegging the beater at different heights.
